Poor Rider! πŸ™ Maybe he just doesn’t want to wake you up so you can let him out. He knows you need your rest! πŸ˜‰

We have to leave our patio slider open for our dog (who’s not particularly old). With him, it’s a psychosomatic thing, I swear. Closed door = Oh no, I need to pee on the floor…

Our dogs wake up my husband about 3:30 a.m. to go out every morning. One time when he didn’t take them out our small male peed on him. I’m not sure who’s trained….them or my husband.

My dog does similar thing but instead of peeing on me he will scratch me until he goes out especially if I want to go back to bed later.

To avoid night time poops, make sure not to feed your dog anything (snacks, chew treats, etc) after 8pm. A dog won’t poop or pee if they’re asleep, but the moment they wake up, they’ll need to go. Puppies tend to wake up over and over at night, and that’s why they need midnight potty breaks, but an older dog shouldn’t wake up unless a car drove by or something.

It happens..poor Rider. Getting older is tough on all of us – maybe he has a stomach issue or maybe no food after 7p or maybe just accept that it happens.

my old golden used to poop in his sleep, his tail would wag and out would come the poop, he had hip displasia so maybe he couldn’t feel the urge, any way, I just cleaned it up and never told him he pooped in his sleep

My 14 year old Bassett poops in his sleep sometimes too. He can’t always hold it and forgets to let us know he has to go, so we’ve experienced pooping while descending and ascending stairs, settling on the dog bed poop, and “I know you haven’t taken my leash off yet but I was so interested a moment ago” poop in the kitchen.

Our dog did a sneaky poop in the basement last night/this morning! I have no idea when it happened, since she was accounted for at all times except for while we were sleeping. She even went out for #1 at 11pm. Oh well, it happens.

My coonhound is 12 and sometimes peas in the house. You know even when she’s taken out at 11pm, or you know 1 am…. it’s part of the dog getting older. We put down puppy pads, but they aren’t close enough to the door for her.
